What Our Occupational Therapists Treat
Our OT team works with children experiencing sensory processing challenges (over-sensitivity or under-sensitivity to touch, sound, movement, or visual input), fine motor difficulties (weak grip, difficulty with buttons, zippers, scissors, and utensils), handwriting problems (illegible writing, slow speed, difficulty forming letters), daily living skill delays (dressing, feeding, toileting, grooming), visual-motor integration challenges (difficulty copying from board, poor spatial awareness), self-regulation difficulties (trouble managing emotions, transitioning between activities), and school readiness gaps (attention, sitting tolerance, task completion).
Why Choose Cadabam's CDC for OT in Bangalore?
Fully Equipped Sensory Integration Rooms
Each of our three Bangalore centers has a dedicated sensory integration room with suspended equipment (swings, hammocks), climbing structures, trampolines, ball pits, tactile exploration stations, and proprioceptive input equipment. This is essential for effective sensory integration therapy — and something many clinics in Bangalore lack.
Team-Based Approach
Your child's OT coordinates goals with their speech therapist, physiotherapist, and psychologist. When a child with autism is working on handwriting in OT, their speech therapist is reinforcing the same vocabulary, and their psychologist is addressing the anxiety that may be limiting their willingness to try. This coordination accelerates progress.

When Should You See an Occupational Therapist?
Parents often wonder when fine motor or sensory differences warrant a professional opinion. Consider an OT consultation if your child:
- Avoids or seeks unusual amounts of sensory input — covering ears at everyday sounds, refusing certain textures, constantly seeking deep pressure or movement
- Struggles with age-appropriate self-care tasks — buttoning, zipping, using utensils, brushing teeth past five or six years
- Has handwriting that is illegible, painful, or significantly slower than peers
- Tires very quickly when sitting upright at a desk or while writing
- Has difficulty with skills that involve hand-eye coordination — catching a ball, scissoring, copying from a board
- Becomes overwhelmed or shuts down in busy environments such as shopping centres or birthday parties
- Has trouble settling for sleep, with transitions between activities, or self-regulating big emotions
These signs can appear in isolation or together. An OT assessment identifies which underlying skills need strengthening and creates a targeted plan. Early support produces stronger results than waiting for a child to "grow out of it".
What to Expect in Your First OT Session
Your first visit to Cadabam's CDC begins with a 60-minute assessment. The therapist sits with you and your child in a sensory gym, observes your child's natural play, and uses validated tools (Sensory Profile, BOT-2, VMI) to map their motor and sensory profile. You will be asked about your child's daily routines, what is working at home and school, and where the friction points are.
By the end of the assessment, your OT shares an initial impression and outlines an evidence-based therapy plan with specific goals, recommended session frequency, and home strategies you can start that week. A written report follows within a few days. Sessions then run weekly or twice weekly for 45 minutes each, in our sensory integration rooms, with regular reviews so you can see measurable progress.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between OT and physiotherapy for children?
Occupational therapy focuses on fine motor skills (hands, fingers), sensory processing, self-care tasks, and cognitive-perceptual skills for learning and daily living. Physiotherapy focuses on gross motor skills (walking, running, balance), strength, and mobility. Many children benefit from both — at Cadabam's CDC, our OTs and PTs coordinate their goals so progress in one area reinforces the other.
My child has messy handwriting — can OT help?
Yes. Handwriting is one of the most common reasons for OT referral. Poor handwriting can stem from weak hand muscles, incorrect pencil grip, visual-motor integration challenges, or motor planning difficulties. Our OTs assess the underlying cause and target it specifically through hand strengthening, grip training, letter formation practice, and sometimes adapted tools.
How long does OT treatment usually take?
Most children show noticeable improvement within 3-6 months of consistent weekly therapy. The total duration depends on the severity and complexity of the child's challenges. Our OTs set measurable goals and review progress every 6-8 weeks, adjusting the therapy plan as the child progresses.
